Frequently Asked Questions About Earning an Adult High School Diploma

Who qualifies for the adult high school diploma program?

Our adult high school diploma program is open to students 18 and older who have not earned a high school diploma. There is no upper age limit, and students may be able to transfer previously earned high school credits. This program is designed especially for adults returning to education.

Is this program 100% online?

Yes. Students in the adult diploma program can complete all coursework completely online, from anywhere and at any time. For students who prefer in-person learning, AHSA also offers classroom-based programs at our Kendall and Hialeah–North Miami campuses.

How is this different from a GED®?

A GED® is a high school equivalency certificate based on passing a one-time standardized test. A high school diploma, like the one awarded by American High School Academy, is a Cognia®-accredited diploma earned through coursework — and is recognized by colleges, universities, employers, and the military nationwide.

Can I get job support after graduation?

Yes. In addition to your diploma, AHSA offers career-ready certifications and personalized support to help you gain employment, enroll in college or trade school, or pursue military service.

Does AHSA accept Step Up For Students® scholarships?

Yes — Step Up For Students® scholarships are accepted for many of AHSA’s classroom-based programs, including dropout recovery, credit recovery, and programs for students with Unique Abilities.

Note: Step Up For Students® scholarships do not cover adult high school completion programs for students who are no longer K–12 age eligible. Please refer to the official eligibility guidelines at StepUpForStudents.org for more information.
