Preparatory Academy

A 24-credit college preparatory curriculum
The academy provides a high school curriculum of 24 credits, including post-secondary educational requirements such as:
- 4 Language Arts
- 4 Mathematics
- 3 Sciences (virtual)
- 3 Social Studies
- World Languages
- General electives, including Physical Education (credit earned through varsity sport participation)
- Participation in the Honors Academy
- No state assessment requirement
Academy schedule
The Preparatory Academy runs as a bricks-and-mortar program that follows the attendance standards set by the Florida State Board of Education.
Our school calendar runs from August to June, in line with the Miami-Dade County Public Schools calendar. The academic year has two 18-week semesters: August to January and January to June.
Regular term
Classes run Monday to Friday, 9:30 am to 2:30 pm.
Attendance
Students must complete the minimum of 180 school days and 900 net instructional hours per school year.
Enrollment deadline
The first week of October of the academic year.
Summer attendance
For students who didn’t complete a required course in the regular 10-month period, or who want an enrichment course for extra credit. Runs June through July, Tuesday to Thursday, 9:30 am to 2:30 pm. Fees depend on the academic program; please contact the school. Activities and field trips cost extra.

AHSA’s full-time programs qualify for Florida’s Step Up for Students scholarship, created to give students the opportunity to personalize their education and find a learning environment where they can be successful.
