Evaluations we offer

Cognitive

Cognitive testing

Cognitive testing, more commonly known as Intelligence Quotient (IQ) testing, is used to better understand general cognitive abilities. IQ testing measures a person’s general intelligence in relation to people of the same age.

Developmental & behavioral

Developmental & behavioral testing

Developmental testing compares your child’s developmental milestones with those of children the same age. It helps parents better understand their child’s strengths and weaknesses and may identify developmental delays.

Behavioral testing identifies your child’s behavioral difficulties, what function the behavior serves and how it may be affecting your child academically.

Academic

Academic testing

Academic testing may help determine your child’s levels of reading, writing, mathematics and processing skills, and identify academic strengths and weaknesses.

Preparing for testing

Testing usually takes 1–2 hours, depending on the individual. If your child is being evaluated, we recommend that you:

  • Choose a time of day when your child is most alert.
  • Make sure your child gets plenty of rest before testing.
  • Make sure your child has eaten a well-balanced meal and is feeling well.

Try not to place too much emphasis on the test session itself. Instead, encourage your child to do the best they can.

What behavioral testing covers

Examples of behaviors that are assessed include, but are not limited to:

  • Autism Spectrum Disorder
  • Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder
  • Executive functioning disorders
  • Social-emotional concerns

The cost of behavioral testing is covered under Medicaid and Medicare through Sunshine Health Insurance.
